It was a hot, steamy early September weekend, and Saturday proved to be a busy day of caricatures for me. I started the day with a trip to Marion, NC for their First Annual WNC (Western North Carolina) Bigfoot Festival.
I had not planned to attend, but ended up going to pick up my complementary copy of the MACA magazine I had donated illustrations and cartoons to from the local McDowell Arts Council Assn. gift shop on their Main Street where the festival was held. It was packed tight with people, so I assume the inaugural fest was a success as far as attendance.
Having not secured a vendor spot, I set up a few chairs under a tree on the sidewalk and offered free Bigfoot Caricatures with tips gladly accepted and was slammed with business until I had to excuse myself to head on to nearby Lake Lure for my next gig of the day.
Arriving at the scenic Rumbling Bald Resort on Lake Lure, I set up to draw guests at the reception for a newlywed couple I had previously completed a commissioned digital caricature for. The printed and framed caricature was on the spot where I would do live caricatures of the reception attendees. Here are a few of the caricatures I was able to get photos of with the kind cooperation of the people drawn posing with them for comparison.
