The local alt-weekly paper, The Mountain Xpress, in Asheville has once again seen fit to commission my art for one of their cover stories. This one seeks to illustrate the concepts in the article regarding the efforts of those both outside the area and inside, mostly non-profits, trying to provide the much-sought-after “affordable or low-income housing” that is desperately needed both here and all over the country.
Below is both the printed and published version, followed by some examples of the process of me providing initial sketches and other preliminary attempts to winnow down the illustration to what the author and editors think will work best, with the various tweaks on the chosen idea.
