Caricature Resolution 2019 begins

My other daily drawing challenge for the year, in addition to “Drawlloween” in the month of October, is January’s more specific caricature-only challenge, Caricature Resolution.

It’s a great way to get in daily caricature practice by using the provided list of subjects. Last year’s list was a theme of celebrities that had died, so it was a bit sad at times. This year’s theme is “Strong, Influential Women”.

Today is the first day and the first subject is a fellow caricature artist (for once, someone on the list who I am actual Facebook friends with! Can’t say that about, say, David Bowie) with a very distinctive and visual art style, Nasrin Sheykhi. Her story of coming to the USA from her native Iran via an “Einstein Visa” has been told by the New York Times, Huffington Post, The Nation, French TV and other media outlets, so I won’t go into too much of it here.

Back to the caricature itself. I’m sticking with digital art again, just because I love using my iPad Pro and Apple Pencil to work in while doing other things, like pretending to watch TV, and you can’t do that with physical paints, etc. I tried to mix my style with her style and got some kind of hybrid here:

I uploaded one of those 30 second screen capture videos from the Procreate app I used to draw this, in case you want to see the process. I have it on my Instagram account here.
